My Principles

Basic Principles

  • Trust and Respect
are the basis of human society.
  • Good Manners
belong to partner dancing like the amen to church.
  • Fun, Joy, and Pleasure
    should be the focus—not overambition.
  • Music and its Transformation into Movement
is what dancing is all about.
  • Physics, Biomechanics, and Logic determine dancing.
Let's use this instead of trying to change it!
  • The right measure makes the difference!
Figures, technique, posture, and musicality in a balanced relationship.
  • Coordination is the dancer's core skill,
    not strength nor endurance.

Approach

  • The lessons are based on the goals of my students.
I am aware of their individuality.
  • I teach not only what to do, but also why.
    This ensures lasting success.
  • I follow the standard works of dance sport,
thus, the content can be looked up and retrained.
  • I strive for a clear focus in lessons,
without neglecting the variety of aspects of dance.
  • I assume independent practice and expect specific questions.

I provide qualified support,
so that my students can solve the equation

Practice + Qualified Support + Self-Study
= Dance Enjoyment

themselves.

Technical Commitment

There are various dance sport associations in the world and there are also various nationally and internationally active and (more or less) well-known dance teacher or dance sport associations. Most of these associations offer their own dance teacher training—usually aligned to the guidelines of an internationally recognised dance teacher association.

The best known international associations are the ↗ Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and the ↗ International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA). I essentially follow these techniques and take the ISTD technique as my starting point for the following reasons:

  • There is an online version of this technique (unfortunately not completely free of errors): ↗ DanceCentral.info
  • The author of the first ISTD technique, Alex Moore MBE, is considered the best dance teacher ever, his technique the bible of standard dance.
  • Alex Moore MBE developed and introduced the tabular presentation that is common today.
  • The best (standard) dancers of all time are associated with ISTD and ICBD, e.g. Bill & Bobby Irvine MBE, Anthony Hurley & Fay Saxton, Richard & Janet Gleave, Marcus & Karen Hilton, Luca & Loraine Baricchi as well as Arunas Bizokas & Katusha Demidova

The differences between ISTD and IDTA are small, but in some places IDTA has already adopted current developments in dance that have not yet found their way into the ISTD technique. That is why I prefer the IDTA technique in some places.
